Glassblowing course: Spring–Summer 2027, 10:00–11:30

During the spring and autumn semesters, we offer a glassblowing course for researchers and technical staff at UZH. The course is open to all UZH staff, researchers at other Swiss universities and higher education institutions, and secondary school teachers in the Canton of Zurich. The course consists of 12 sessions of 1.5 hours each and takes place weekly.

Glass can be shaped whilst hot or worked whilst cold. Course participants learn to blow simple apparatus and artistic objects from glass. The course demonstrates the various properties and possibilities of glass in the laboratory. You will learn how to seal glass ampoules under vacuum. Theoretical and practical knowledge about glass as a material is also taught.

We are happy to accommodate participants’ requests.

The course costs CHF 180 and is held in German.

The course fee is often covered by your institute. In that case, you can select the ‘Verrechnung an Institut’ option. Please check with your institute to confirm whether the costs will be covered. If you are paying yourself, select the ‘Kreditkartenzahlung’ option.
