Zurich Small Animal Seminar on Thursday in August

Preventive healthcare for dogs is becoming increasingly important as an active component of long-term disease prevention. Current scientific data shows that findings may already be present in early life that indicate an infectious disease or an increased risk of later chronic, allergic or immune-mediated diseases. The Growing Dog Project is conducting a prospective cohort study to investigate how early life events, infections, parasitic exposures, environmental factors and medical interventions influence later health. A particular focus is on identifying early markers that may indicate impaired organ or immune function – even before manifest diseases occur. The presentation will introduce new findings on potential early markers of gastrointestinal diseases and place them in the overall context of preventive healthcare. In addition, the role of parasitic diseases, modern diagnostic options and practical recommendations for risk-oriented, evidence-based preventive care will be discussed. The aim is to better recognise early warning signs, implement targeted preventive measures and promote the long-term health of dogs in a sustainable manner.
