08:00–12:00 AM | From the Cell to the Business Idea | Institute for Regenerative Medicine
What exactly do researchers at the Institute for Regenerative Medicine do? In two workshops, you'll discover two different but closely connected worlds:
1. Lab Research at IREM – Cells, Genes, and Tissues
Researchers in action: Explore the world of cells!
Find out what cells, genes, and tissues are and why we study them. Then you'll get hands-on: you'll isolate DNA from fruits or vegetables, experiment with pipettes, and discover the world of cells under the microscope.
Along the way, you'll also meet young researchers from various research areas at IREM. They'll tell you about their own projects and show you what their daily work in research looks like.
2. BioMed Entrepreneurship – Your Idea for a Better Life
Mini-inventors wanted!
How does a good scientific idea turn into a product that can actually help people? In small teams, you’ll develop your own business idea, build a model, or create a pitch poster, and at the end, you’ll present your very own “mini-startup”.
After a joint introduction, you’ll be split into two groups. All kids will take part in both workshops, with a short break in between. The morning ends with a joint wrap-up and a group photo.

1:00–3:00 PM | A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Research Groups at the UZH Life Science Campus Schlieren
In the afternoon, you’ll split into smaller groups across different research labs on campus.
There you’ll get to meet researchers right at their workplaces and get an insight into their research projects, labs, and daily tasks. Depending on the research group, you'll get to do small experiments, demonstrations, or other hands-on activities.
This way, in one day you'll experience different sides of life science research – from your own experiment to innovative ideas to real everyday work in the lab.
