Description

How can democracies respond when authoritarian governments seek to intimidate, monitor, or silence individuals beyond their borders? This public event brings together leading scholars with civil society and community representatives to discuss the growing challenge of transnational repression and its implications for human rights, democratic resilience, and diaspora communities.

The event will feature short keynote inputs followed by a moderated panel discussion and audience Q&A. Speakers include

  • Prof. Ralph Weber (University of Basel)
  • Selina Morell (Voices)
  • Zumretay Akin (World Uyghur Congress)
  • Fabian Krause (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg School of Law)

The discussion will be followed by an apéro, providing an opportunity for informal exchange and networking among participants, speakers, and members of the public.

    Authoritarian governments increasingly seek to monitor, intimidate, and silence individuals beyond their borders. This public panel brings together perspectives from affected communities, civil society, and academia to explore the impacts of transnational repression on diaspora communities and democratic societies. The discussion will examine current challenges and possible ways to strengthen protection, accountability, and democratic resilience.
